Patriots lose Lewis (knee) for season

-

The New England Patriots put running back Dion Lewis on injured reserve, ending his season one day after a serious injury to his left knee in a win over Washington.

Lewis had 622 combined yards rushing and receiving in seven games. He signed a two-year contract extension last month, and was third in the league among running backs with 36 catches.

Giants: Defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins will be placed on season-ending injured reserve this week after suffering a torn pectoral tendon in Sunday’s game.

Eagles: Rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks was placed on season-ending injured reserve after he tore his left pectoral tendon Sunday night.

Colts: Starting defensive lineman Henry Anderson was put on season-ending injured reserve with a sprained right knee.

Rams: Stedman Bailey, the Rams’ No. 3 wide receiver for much of this season, was suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Bailey, who served a twogame suspension for performance enhancing drugs last season, has 12 receptions for 182 yards with one TD this season. The Rams signed veteran wide receiver Wes Welker, 34.

Broncos: Cornerback Aqib Talib was hit with a one-game suspension by the NFL for poking Colts tight end Dwayne Allen in his right eye during Sunday’s game. If upheld on appeal, Talib will miss Sunday’s home game against the Chiefs.

Vikings: Coach Mike Zimmer said quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and cornerback Terence Newman have passed the first part of the NFL’s concussion protocol. Zimmer said he believes Bridgewater “will be good to go” when the Vikings play at Oakland on Sunday.

Jaguars: Wide receiver Allen Hurns sprained his left foot Sunday and was wearing a walking boot Monday. Hurns had an X-ray and a MRI, but neither revealed any serious damage. Hurns has a touchdown reception in six consecutive games, a franchise record.

Steelers: Receiver Antonio Brown (284 yards receiving, 22 rushing) and running back DeAngelo Williams (170 yards rushing, 55 receiving) combined for 531 of Pittsburgh’s 597 yards on Sunday in the most prolific yardage day in NFL history by a pair of teammates.

Saints: The defense allowed 487 yards in Sunday’s OT loss to the Titans and now ranks last in the NFL in yards allowed per play (6.5).

Panthers: The team plans to replace a banner that belonged to a Green Bay Packers fan — one that QB Cam Newton ripped down before Sunday’s game in Charlotte. The banner, which read “North Carolina Cheeseheads” and had a Packers logo on it, belonged to Mike Dobs, a Wisconsin native who lives in Fayetteville, N.C. Dobs told ABC 11 in Fayetteville he spent $500 on the banner and $3,700 on tickets to attend the game.

Raiders: Coach Jack Del Rio is concerned about his defense’s tackling after Oakland allowed the Steelers 597 yards of offense — a franchise worst for yards allowed in a game. “We really went backward yesterday in terms of our execution in those key areas,” the coach said. “We just did not execute it yesterday very well.”

Bills: Former Jets coach and current Bills coach Rex Ryan said he plans to make IK Enemkpali a co-captain for the coin toss for Thursday night’s AFC East game at the Jets. Enemkpali is the former Jets linebacker who punched then-teammate Geno Smith and broke his jaw during a locker room altercation on Aug. 11.
