Kerrville car show to raise funds for state mental health facility

- By David Wilfong

Kerrville State Hospital is one of 10 mental health facilities serving the needs of Texans around the state. One car enthusiast in Kerrville is hoping to raise funds an d he lp “shatter the stigma” of mental-health needs with a car show Feb. 20 at the Kerr County Youth Event Center, 3785 Highway 27, in Kerrville).

“We’re having a car show for pre2000 cars, an d it’s going to be an indoor show,” organi zer Mac Anderson said. “We’ re also looking to get some custom cars in if we can. We’re going to have some stuff in the front part of the building, vendors an d things like that, and then in the back, where we ’ve got a lot of room, we’re going to have the cars. I’m looking to get 50 to whatever I ca n. I can put 100 cars in there if we want to.”

All of the money raised from the event will go to the Volunteer Services Council of Kerrville State Hospital, which is also coordinating the exhibit hall in the front of the facilities.

Anderson has organized a few shows in Kerrville in the past and said he generally gets a few cars from the Austin area that make it in for the shows, especially for the chance at an indoor venue.

“This is a February show, but it’s indoors,” Anderson said. “A lot of them will hold off to see how the weather is, but since it’s indoors, they’re guaranteed a dry spot. And it’s a good place, a good fa cility.”

Registration is from 8-11 a.m., then the judging for the awards will be done by vote among the participating members. There are eight classes for judging; awards will be handed out at 2 p.m.

Anderson will be organizing an other car show in conjunction with a business expo in August.
