Bobcats focus on bulking up lines
About 60 recruits expected to visit campus Saturday.
Approximately 60 players for the 2018 recruiting class will be on campus for Texas State’s junior day, and 30 of them already have received an offer or are likely to get one from the Bobcats on Saturday.
With an obvious emphasis on the offensive and defensive lines as well as wide receivers, there will be prospects from several other positions spread out across the field.
The Bobcats aren’t hosting any notable quarterbacks; they signed three for 2017 — Mexia’s Jaylen Gipson, Corsicana’s Kishawn Kelley and Silsbee’s Willie Jones III. Stacy Conner, a two-star quarterback from Wylie and the Bobcats’ lone commitment for 2018, will be in Las Vegas this weekend to participate in a national sevenon-seven tournament.
Conner led Dallas Bishop Dunne to the TAPPS Division I state championship game last year but transferred to Wylie, a Class 6A program, for his senior season. Since then, his recruitment has intensified; he now has six offers (Texas State, North Texas, San Jose State, Nevada, Connecticut and Illinois State) and has drawn interest from Cal, Baylor and Mississippi State.
Conner’s primary recruiter from Texas State was offensive coordinator Brett Elliott, who recently left the Bobcats to be the quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State.
But Conner is maintaining his commitment to the Bobcats. When asked if he’s considering opening his recruitment, he said: “Not yet. I am still good.”
Here’s a list of who’s expected for Saturday. Numbers in parentheses are that recruit’s star rating, if he has one.
