Texture the City: Austin History Tours. Join the history tours company on this walking exploration of Austin’s historic music district. Although the city doesn’t have an official music district, music venues have clustered along East Sixth Street and in the Red River Cultural District, drawing weekend crowds and, since 1987, the famous South by Southwest music festival. What forces turned these intersecting roads into a musical hub? On this walking tour, you’ll get a few answers, including segregation, urban sprawl and flash floods. Tours last about 90 minutes. 12 p.m. Saturday. $15-$20. Meeting location: southwest corner of West Cesar Chavez and South Congress Avenue. texturethecity.org.
