- Staff and wire reports

Jason Martinson hit a tworun single in the seventh inning to help lift the Round Rock Express over the New Orleans Baby Cakes 6-4 at Dell Diamond on Wednesday.

The win was the third straight for the Express; the first time since the middle of June that Round Rock has won three straight games.

The single by Martinson scored Brett Nicholas and Jared Hoying and was the game’s last scoring play.

The Express (44-53) tied it at 4 when Ronald Guzman hit a solo home run in the fifth. Guzman had two walks and scored twice.

Nick Martinez (2-0) got the win with four innings of scoreless, four-hit relief, and Javy Guerra (2-4) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. R.J. Alvarez retired the side in order for his fourth save of the season.

Brandon Barnes was 3 for 5 for the Baby Cakes (38-59), and Brian Anderson homered for New Orleans. Anderson hit a threerun shot in the top of the first to give the Baby Cakes the lead.

Austin Nola also homered for New Orleans in the second inning, making it 4-0.

Jurickson Profar and Nicholas each had two hits and drove in a run for Round Rock. Both had bases-loaded walks in the second inning to cut New Orleans’ lead in half.

Profar put the ball in play to center field in the fourth and an error by Barnes allowed Drew Stubbs to score from first.

Round Rock improved to 9-2 against New Orleans this season.

The Express went for the series sweep Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Dell Diamond.
