The Texas State women’s track and field program won the Sun Belt indoor championship for the second straight year. The men’s team finished third.

Sophomore Tramesha Hardy was the women’s top scorer after winning four gold medals — in the 60 (7.50 seconds), the 200 (23.68) and the 400 and as part of the 1,600 relay team. It was the second straight year she won four golds.

On the men’s side, sophomore T’Mond Johnson repeated as the shot put champion after a 19.05-meter toss on his fourth attempt, a personal best for Johnson and the second-longest throw in program history.

“We are proud of both teams and how they competed during the championships,” Jody Stewart, the director of track and field, said in a statement. “Both teams faced adversity and competed tough throughout. It’s year three of our coaching staff; we’re still building, but we’re excited about the youth, character and direction of our program.”

Leavitt returns: Junior guard Toshua Leavitt is back from an injury that forced her to miss two games, and the women’s basketball team has won three straight games.

Leavitt played 34 minutes in a 64-40 win over Georgia State, finishing with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. She set a Sun Belt record for single-season 3-pointers, leads the nation in 3-point attempts, and is 13 3-pointers away from the NCAA single-season record.

Baseball, softball honors: Two Bobcats received conference awards for performances last week — Hailey MacKay was named the softball player of the week and Connor Reich was the league’s pitcher of the week for baseball.

MacKay went 8 for 14 during a five-game tournament. She leads the team with 13 hits and four home runs. Reich struck out eight and allowed only two hits in a 10-1 win over Oklahoma State.

The softball team is at the Strike-Out Cancer tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. The Bobcats (7-4) beat Columbia 6-2 in their first game Friday afternoon.

Men’s basketball team still struggling: Texas State lost its seventh straight game Thursday, falling 77-50 to Georgia State. The Bobcats (14-15, 7-9) host Georgia Southern on Saturday.
