Chekhov, comedy, young photographers and more this weekend
Comedy
Brian Posehn at Cap City Comedy Club. Posehn embodies that comedy cocktail of approachability and aloofness that defines the ’90s alternative comedy scene. I remember first seeing him on the now legendary “Mr. Show with Bob and David” on HBO, on tours like “Comedians of Comedy” and in movies like Rob Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects.” Posehn is his own force to be reckoned with, like a giant orange Muppet, and brings a metalhead’s rage and nerdcore aesthetic. 7:30 and 10 p.m. Saturday. $18-$23. 8120 Research Blvd. Suite 100. capcitycomedy.com.
Theater & dance
“The Seagull.” It’s the final weekend to see Austin Shakespeare’s production of a new adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s revolutionary play. Set in 19th century Russia, “The Seagull” is about a budding playwright and a young actress who confront their lifelong desires in a collision course with his famous mother and her even more well-known novelist lover. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday. $18-$35. The Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Drive. 512-4745664, thelongcenter.org.
