South by Southwest, spring break and Columbus Crew SC’s home opener this Saturday will come and go before the Austin City Council takes any action regarding the possibility of the Ohio-based MLS club landing here.

The agenda for Thursday’s council meeting doesn’t include a discussion of soccer. The next City Council meeting arrives March 22. After that, there will be a threeweek break before the council reconvenes April 12.

Council members are waiting to hear from Precourt Sports Ventures, which operates Crew SC, about its preferred stadium sites in Austin. As Council Member Leslie Pool, whose District 7 includes McKalla Place, has said, “The ball is in Precourt’s court, so to speak.”

Austin MLS lobbyist Richard Suttle, who works for PSV, told the American-Statesman the analysis of sites continues and the group is getting closer to making decisions, although he didn’t discuss a timetable.

Also sitting on idle is the Austin Parks and Recreation Board’s unanimous recommendation to remove Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Park from the list of potential stadium sites.

“A recommendation by the board or commission does not automatically generate a Council action,” said Jason Stanford, communications director for Mayor Steve Adler. “Someone on the Council or city staff would have to create an agenda item to bring it up.”
