A Pflugerville resident described the scene of a rapid-fire shootout Wednesday that ended with two people in the hospital with gunshot wounds and two men arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Roy Aleman, who has lived on Botany Bay Circle since 2000, said he was in his home office Wednesday afternoon when he heard several honks from two vehicles stopped side by side on the street. A man came out from a house near his, he said, followed by the “pop pop pop” of gunfire.

Aleman said he heard about 20 shots fired in rapid succession, a number later confirmed by Pflugerville police.

“That’s what struck me was the sheer volume (of gunshots),” he said.

He went to the front of his house where he said he saw an injured man running awkwardly down the sidewalk toward a red Chevy Camaro.

Pflugerville police said the Camaro’s driver had driven to the Pflugerville Recreation Center on nearby Immanuel Road, leading police to close the center for the rest of the day.

On Thursday, Pflugerville police said they charged Larry Sutton, 21, and Chaz Anthony, 23, both of Pflugerville, with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Anthony faces additional charges of possession of a stolen firearm and tampering with evidence.

In the melee, police said Anthony’s mother, Michele Anthony, suffered a gunshot wound. She remained in a hospital Friday in critical but stable condition.

Sutton also suffered a gunshot wound, police said in a news release. Anthony was not injured in the shooting, police said, and is booked in the Travis County Jail.

Gabriel De La Cerna, who lives a few houses away from Michele Anthony’s house on Botany Bay Circle, said he was picking up his child from school when he heard about the shootout.

“They’re a good family,” he said of the Anthonys. “They’ve always been quiet.”
