UT’s Doug Ghim shot a final-round 73 to claim a share of the individual Big 12 men’s golf championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday.

Ghim joined Grant Hirschman of Oklahoma, Jeremy Gandon of Kansas State and Kristoffer Ventura of Oklahoma State as top finishers. Each shot 3-over par 283 for the tournament.

“It’s nice to win, obviously,” Ghim said. “I wish I could have made that putt on 18, but it was a great week.”

The Longhorns finished tied for second place after shooting 1,147 for 27 over par. Oklahoma won the team title at 19 over.

Ghim is the sixth Longhorn to win the Big 12 championship and the 15th to win an individual conference title. He is the first Longhorn to win the individual title since Scottie Scheffler in 2013.

Scheffler finished tied for fifth at 5 over this time around. It was his lowest finish of the season.

Steven Chervony finished at 10-over 290 for a tie for 18th. Drew Jones and Spencer Soosman tied for 30th at 15 over.

“We knew that a great round might give us a chance to win, but we didn’t have that today,” UT coach John Fields said.

Men’s basketball: Ex-Longhorn James Banks has found his next home.

Banks tweeted Tuesday night he will join Georgia Tech. Banks announced last month he was transferring from Texas after two seasons with the Longhorns. The Georgia native will join a Georgia Tech team that went 13-19 during the 201718 season.

A 6-foot-10 center, Banks struggled to find playing time at Texas during his sophomore season. He logged 95 minutes and averaged 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 14 games. Banks blocked five shots in his first game with the Longhorns, which was a record for a debuting freshman.

Banks’ transfer comes three days after former UT guard Jacob Young joined Rutgers.
