Horns-Tide agree to play in 2022, 2023

Texas announced Wednesday it has reached a homeand-home agreement to play Alabama in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The Longhorns will host the first matchup Sept. 10, 2022, the school announced. The Crimson Tide will then return the favor on Sept. 9, 2023.

To accommodate the matchups, Texas and Ohio State have mutually agreed to postpone their homeand-home series a few more years. The Longhorns and Buckeyes were scheduled to meet in 2022-2023. Now, that series will be played in 2025-26.

Also Wednesday, Texas announced that UTEP has been added to the 2020 schedule. UT is 5-0 in the alltime series and last faced its El Paso sister school in 2016.

A game against Central Florida, scheduled for 2023, has also been canceled, the school said. Texas still has more work ahead to complete future football schedules. In 2019, the three scheduled non-conference opponents are Louisiana Tech (Aug. 31), LSU (Sept. 7) and at Rice (Sept. 14).

In 2020, Texas is scheduled to play South Florida (Sept. 5), at LSU (Sept. 12) and now UTEP (Sept. 19).

Texas to restrict USC tickets: If you’re planning on going to the Texas/USC game this fall, be prepared to buy tickets for the Longhorns’ home contests against Tulsa, TCU, Baylor, West Virginia and Iowa State as well.

The university announced on Tuesday that single-game tickets for its home game against USC on Sept. 15 will not be made available. Tickets sold through UT will only be doled out to season ticket holders. Need season tickets? They’ll be on sale from June 13-15. The remaining tickets for the Texas/USC game will also be offered to season ticket holders. The order in which those customers can scoop up the extra tickets will be determined by “Loyalty Points rank.”

Ex-Texas WR to play at community college: Former Texas receiver Reggie Hemphill-Mapps will continue his career at Trinity Valley Community College, the Athens-based school announced. Hemphill-Mapps spent the past two years at Texas but left in February. Having used his redshirt season in 2016, he will have three years of eligibility left.

Hemphill-Mapps’ transfer was surprising news that Tom Herman initially described as “disappointing.” In 2017, Hemphill-Mapps’ 37 catches trailed only Collin Johnson on UT’s stat sheet. He averaged 10.9 yard per catch, but his only touchdown was scored on a 91-yard punt return. Hemphill-Mapps’ 12-catch performance against Kansas State ranks fourth in the Longhorns’ record books.
