National Ice Cream Day caps off your weekend activities
Comedy
“A Big Gay Musical” at Hideout Theatre. Pride Month might have passed, but the Hideout’s latest improvisation show will spotlight the LGBTQIA community nonetheless. This “Big Gay Musical” homage to Broadway will be created before your eyes, inspired by true stories from the LGBTQIAidentifying monologists that will be told onstage during the show. Expect queer protagonists, queer love stores and a whole lot of queer anthems. Each show raises money for a different local LGBTQIA organization. 8 p.m. Saturday through Aug. 25. $15. 617 Congress Ave. hideouttheatre.com.
Theater & dance
Sky Candy’s “Matrix Ascending.” The Sky Candy collective is taking to the air to give aerial interpretations of perhaps an unexpected inspiration: the films and television shows of the Wachowski siblings. “Matrix Ascending” is a celebration of such on-screen gems as “The Matrix” trilogy, “V for Vendetta,” “Speed Racer” and more. Expect acrobatic prowess from floor to air. Come early for drinks and mingling when the doors open at 8:30 p.m., but the show begins promptly at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. $15-$80. The North Door, 502 Brushy St. matrixascending.brownpapertickets.com.
