Road might be built behind Target tract
A new road could be built behind the Target on RM 620 in Bee Cave pending review from city staff and approval from the City Council.
Developer and Bee Cave resident Adrian Overstreet submitted a site plan to build a road that would stretch from Ladera Boulevard to Bee Cave Parkway.
While Overstreet said he is not sure what he plans to do with the road, his hope is that in the meantime it will alleviate some traffic congestion for residents living in the Ladera neighborhood.
Residents have complained to Homeowners Association board members and city officials about the traffic issues in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is being used as a cut-through down Tordera Drive and Ladera Boulevard to get to and from Target and Home Depot on RM 620. Residents have also said traffic on Bee Cave Parkway has increased, making it hard to leave the neighborhood.
The addition of the new road connecting Bee Cave Parkway to Ladera would give drivers near Home Depot, Target and Chick-fil-A an alternate route to take instead of Ladera.
A few Ladera residents and Homeowners Association board members came out to a recent meeting to speak on the issue.
Robert Vickery, who has lived in the neighborhood since 2012, believes the road could improve connectivity in the area.
“I think this give people options on how they move and flow,” Vickery said. “I am in favor of this roadway being built. I enjoy walking the neighborhood and down to Target and Home Depot, and connectivity to other spaces would be great. I think it will be a benefit to have that roadway there as this community continues to grow and expand.”
HOA President Steve Schmidt said Overstreet hosted a meeting with the neighborhood explaining what his plans were to build the road. He said about 70 residents attended, and about 85 percent of them were in favor. He said the residents who weren’t in favor said it was due to uncertainty of what that road would eventually become.
Schmidt said the neighborhood is aware that the road will not solve all its traffic issues but agrees that it would help mitigate some traffic jams.
“We don’t know if it’s going to help our traffic situation, but it will help the connectivity,” said Andrea Willott, a HOA board member. “(Adrian) Overstreet also said that he would be kind enough to increase the easement, so there could be a walking path from Ladera Boulevard to Bee Cave Parkway, and there is talk of putting sidewalks from Target all the way down Ladera Boulevard into Ladera. So it would really benefit us to have the road.”
The city staff was directed to resume the review of the site plan and bring it back to the City Council as soon as possible.
