Men accused of firing gun near high school

-

Two men were accused of firing a handgun in the direction of homes and schools in Round Rock during an incident that one of them posted on Snapchat, according to an arrest affidavit.

Jimmy Neal Campbell III of Killeen and Jonathan Alexander Patton of Round Rock, both of them 22 years old, were charged with deadly conduct, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Police responded after a number of people reported hearing shots fired Aug. 26 in an area behind Stony Point High School, at 1801 Tiger Trail, the affidavit states.

One of the callers told police that her child had seen a Snapchat video posted by a person called “Jimmy-icarrypistols,” according to the affidavit. The caller said she recognized the people in the video as possibly being residents of a nearby house.

A police officer viewed the Snapchat video, which was recorded at 3:18 a.m. Aug. 26 and showed Patton holding a pistol at a 45-degree angle and firing four shots in the direction of nearby homes, schools and streets, the affidavit says. The video also showed Campbell holding the same pistol and firing three shots, the document says.

A third man, whose name has not been released, also fired shots with the same pistol, according to the affidavit. The video ended with Campbell saying, “I ain’t got no more bullets,” the document says.

The handgun in the video was fired a total of nine times, the affidavit says.

Campbell later denied knowing anything about the shooting or where the firearm was located, according to the affidavit.

Both Campbell and Patton were being held Monday in the Williamson County Jail, with bail set at $20,000 for each of them. — CLAIRE OSBORN, AMERICAN-STATESMAN
