Districts 25-6A, 26-6A feature top games

Playoff competitio­n will be the warmest thing on the dais Tuesday night as District 25-6A playoff contenders square off. Two of the three district co-leaders, Vista Ridge and Vandegrift, meet at the Viper Pit while the third coleader, Cedar Ridge, travels to fourthplac­e Round Rock. And in District 26-6A, third-place Lake Travis is at state-ranked Westlake.

In Class 6A action last Friday, Vandegrift upset Cedar Ridge 45-43 and Vista Ridge beat Manor 61-39 to create a three-way tie for first after the first round of district play, with all three teams beating each other and having a 6-1 record. Round Rock took possession of fourth by beating McNeil 45-32.

Vandegrift continues its amazing run as the Vipers won their 20th game after winning eight games last year, just two in district. Emma Winans connected on five free throws in the final minute to lift Vandegrift to the win. Maddie Broxterman led the Vipers with 15 points while Saania Khawaja added 14 and Winans 12. Janiyah Alvarez led Cedar Ridge with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Sayler Bourland poured in 17 points while both Kianna Wormly and Nadia Adeleke added 14 each as Vista Ridge ran past Manor. Round Rock is only 4-3 in district play, but the Dragons have limited all opponents to less than 40 points per game and have outscored their seven opponents by an aggregate 43 points. In the other district game, Stony Point beat Westwood 57-42.

In District 26-6A, defending district champion Austin High `beat Dripping Springs 46-27 behind the play of Kemah Shaw. The Maroons lead Johnson by two games in the race for the final playoff spot. Johnson beat Del Valle 61-43. First-place Westlake had a bye while Bowie crushed Anderson 61-22 and Lake Travis swamped Akins 60-29. the Hawks past East View 75-36. A'maya Edwards added 18 points and Rayne Maxwell. Pflugerville blasted Connally to move into sole possession of third place as Jem Yowa had 18 points and 22 rebounds and Sidhania Minchan finished with 13 points for the Panthers.

In District 24-5A, first-place McCallum beat Northeast 68-11 as Emy Chen scored 19 points with six steals while Sam Cowles had 14 points with 10 rebounds and three assists with another three steals. Miranda DiGiovanni finished with nine points, six steals and three assists for the Knights. Paulete Mbuangi scored 26 points to lead Navarro past Crockett 60-33 while LASA beat Austin High 57-24 as Kyndall Johnson and Carly Gonzales scored 16 points each.

In a Friday night upset special in 25-5A, Glenn shocked Liberty Hill 4430 as freshman Libby Lee scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the third quarter. The Grizzlies outscored the Panthers 17-9 in the third quarter and 8-0 in the second. Liberty Hill was ranked No. 2 in the state. Soma Okolo added 14 points for the Grizzlies while Liberty Hill's Gabby Munday scored 20 of the Panthers' 30 points.

Team of the week: St. Stephen's. The Spartans defeated Atwty Internatio­nal 48-14 behind 22 points from Kennedy Lartigue, who connected on four of eight 3-points shots while collecting eight steals, seven deflections and five rebounds. The Spartans are 13-5 on the season had been 2-2 in district play.
