Texas could meet Texas Tech again next season in Brooklyn
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Maybe Texas basketball fans won’t have to wait long to renew that rivalry with Texas Tech after all.
Texas announced Wednesday that it will join Syracuse, Saint Joseph’s and Texas Tech in the 2024 Legends Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 21-22. Semifinal pairings and television coverage will be announced at a later date.
The announcement comes less than a month after an ugly visit to Lubbock, when Texas ended its conference rivalry against the Red Raiders with a win before a sold-out crowd that showered the court with bottles after a flagrant foul on Longhorns forward Brock Cunningham.
Texas and Texas Tech have played 158 times in a series that extends back to 1939.
Almost all of the games have come in conference competition either in the Southwest Conference or the Big 12. Texas, which will leave the Big 12 for the SEC on July 1, holds a 90-67 edge in the series over the Red Raiders.
Texas, which competed in the Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan this past November, will make its fourth appearance in the Legends Classic.
