Texas falls in midweek loss to Islanders

- Danny Davis

After a strong finish to its weekend, the Texas baseball team stumbled to start the week.

The Longhorns were unable to dig out of an early hole Tuesday night in a 4-1 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Texas (1510), which was coming off two blowout wins over Baylor, was held to its lowest run total of the season.

The Islanders (13-16) took an early lead when Christian Smith-Johnson hit a three-run homer off UT pitcher Cole Selvig with one out in the second inning.

They expanded their lead to four runs on an RBI double in the sixth.

A sacrifice fly from Peyton Powell in the eighth inning helped Texas cut into its deficit. The Longhorns, however, were retired in order in the ninth to end the game.
