Austin American-Statesman

2024 ALL-CENTRAL TEXAS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

- Butch Hart Special to Austin American-Statesman

Player of the year: Gianna Angiolet, Westlake

The senior defensive standout stepped up offensively this season, acting as a catalyst for the Chaparrals, who made a run to the regional tournament before falling to eventual state tournament qualifier San Antonio Brennan. Angiolet averaged 18.1 points, but it was her court presence and transformation into an on-the-court coach for Westlake’s Viki Benson that led the Chaps to district, bi-district, area and regional quarterfinal championships.

Newcomer of the year: Libby Lee, Glenn

Lee, a gifted shooter, passer and premier defender, led the Grizzlies to the district championship as a freshman, though an ankle injury restricted her playing time and skills in the playoffs. Glenn ended up as regional runners-up. Also considered were Vandegrift’s Maddy Broxterman and McNeil’s Caria Thomas.

Coach of the year: Kami Williamson, Cedar Park

Williamson was a key assistant coach for the Timberwolves’ back-to-back state championship teams, and after Donny Ott left for Class 6A Summer Creek, Williamson took over this season and led Cedar Park right back to the state tournament, including huge playoff wins over district rivals Glenn and Liberty Hill. Also considered were Glenn’s Kenny Mann, Hendrickson’s Norma Sierra and Bowie’s Iesha Collins.
