East View, Rouse, Westwood win area-round openers

Morgan, Boren, Gula lead victory by Warriors

Most Austin-area baseball teams had Game 1 of their area-round playoff series delayed by weather Thursday, but Westwood, Rouse and East View all took impressive wins.

Class 6A

Westwood 10, San Antonio Brandeis 6: Ridge Morgan went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs, Grant Boren had an RBI double and Jackson Gula finished 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored as the Warriors moved to one win away from the regional quarterfinals with the victory at Northside ISD Sports Complex in San Antonio. The game was tied 3-3 entering the fourth before Boren smacked his run-scoring double and Morgan followed later in the inning with a two-run double to highlight a five-run frame. Owen Norrell, Jacob Wright, Antonio Martinez and John Ramsey combined for Westwood's efforts on the mound.

New Braunfels 1, Dripping Springs 0 (8): Luke Holt's walkoff single in the bottom of the eighth at New Braunfels High School gave the Unicorns the series lead. Taylor Tracey struck out five in two innings and Blake Cox fanned six in five innings to lead the Tigers.

Class 5A

Rouse 10, San Antonio Alamo Heights 1: Rayner Heinrich went 3-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored, Landon Miller hit a two-run homer, and Xander Forsell finished 2for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Raiders to an easy win in the series opener at Alamo Heights. Gavin Silva struck out six in 42⁄3 innings, and Dalton Holbrook and Carter May combined for 21⁄3 innings of scoreless relief to pace Rouse on the mound. Oscar Salazar added two hits and an RBI, Nathan Miller belted an RBI double, and Jacob Soliz drove in a run in other notable numbers for the Raiders.

East View 6, Magnolia 4: A week after their first playoff series win in school history, the Patriots used a five-run fourth inning to spur them to the victory on their home field. David Brown hit a two-run single and Ryan Pullen blasted a two-run double to highlight the frame.

Daniel Boyer doubled and eventually scored in the fifth to put East View ahead 6-2. Brown finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Patrick Reyes pitched a complete game to earn the win, scattering nine hits and walking only two.
