Backpacker - - Socks -

OUR TAKE On cold, sloppy slogs through Virginia, our Appalachian Trail testers were grateful for the Pursuit Heavy Hike on their 550-mile march through the state. Thick cushion all over kept their feet warm and dry on subfreezing days with snow, sleet, and mud, and provided extra padding when the path got rocky and rooty. A high merino content (73 percent) prevented their feet from getting swampy when temps rose into the 40s. Our testers say the Pursuit never bagged out across the whole of Virginia, thanks to 2 percent elastane. Bummer: No small option in the unisex sizing.

TRAIL CRED “For a sock this woolly, the Pursuit dries fast,” one tester reports. “I turn it inside out and sleep with it on after downpours, and it’s ready to go by morning.” $27; 3.2 oz.; M-L (unisex); swiftwick.com
