The 33-year-old Reyes primarily played shortstop for the Mets from 2003-11 but may be used in a utility role in his reunion with the team. Reyes was cut by the Rockies after serving a 59-day suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy. The Rockies are responsible for the $39 million remaining on his contract, minus the prorated share of the $507,500 major-league minimum to be paid by the Mets. ■ Nationals: Ace RHP Stephen Strasburg has been scratched from his scheduled start Sunday at Milwaukee. Manager Dusty Baker said Strasburg, who is 10-0 with a 2.90 ERA, felt pain in his back while throwing before Saturday’s 6-5 loss to the Brewers. He missed his last scheduled start with an upper-back strain. ■ Royals: OF Alex Gordon was reinstated from the disabled list before the Royals’ game against the Astros. The three-time AllStar and four-time Gold Glove winner fractured his right wrist in a May 22 collision with teammate Mike Moustakas, who suffered a season-ending torn right anterior cruciate ligament, while chasing a foul ball. In six rehab games with Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Gordon hit .364 with a .481 on-base percentage, .545 slug- ging percentage, one home run and five RBIs. ■ Yankees: 2B Starlin Castro drove home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning and the Yankees edged the Twins 2-1 with more dominant pitching from the back end of their bullpen. Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller (5-0) and Aroldis Chapman combined to throw three scoreless innings for the third straight game. OF Brett Gardner had three hits for the Yankees and Carlos Beltran delivered an RBI single. ■ Pirates: OF Andrew McCutchen homered twice, Jeff Locke took a perfect game into the sixth inning, and the Pirates beat the Dodgers 6-1.
