Proposal came on the state fair’s Ferris wheel

DATE: May 28 HER STORY: Megan Nickole Martin, 23, was born and raised in Westminste­r. She works at Carroll Land Services and Bounds Accounting and Tax Services. Her parents, Diana and Ray Martin, live in Taneytown.

HIS STORY: Cody Edward Cashman, 23, was born and raised in Frederick. He is a sales manager at the York Fair Expo Center. His parents, David Andrew and Jo Ann Cashman, live in New Windsor.

THEIR STORY: The two initially met in high school but reconnecte­d through Facebook in 2012.

“He kind of just messaged me; it was kind of exciting,” Megan recalled. “We started hanging out. It went from there.”

The two had a memorable first date at the Corner Stable in Cockeysvil­le.

“It was really nice,” she said. “We went on a whole lot of mini dates after that.” Megan and Cody live in Harney. THE PROPOSAL: On Aug. 23, 2014, Cody proposed while the two were riding the Ferris wheel at the Maryland State Fair.

The setting was perfect, as fireworks were also going off. Cody, whose father works for the fair, was able to arrange for the ride to stop while they were at the top. Cody also arranged for the lights below in the infield to read: “Will you marry me?”

Megan was a little surprised because she thought she was up there to take photos of the fireworks.

“At first I didn’t think anything of it,” she said. “We always go up on the Ferris wheel.”

Cody set up a GoPro camera on the Ferris wheel to capture the entire proposal.

“We will watch it every year,” Megan said. “It will be cool.”

VENUE: About 350 guests attended the ceremony and reception at the Carroll County Agricultur­e Center. Guests gathered at the pond for the ceremony and in the Shipley Arena for the reception.

FLOWERS AND DECOR: The wedding had a fair theme. The colors were champagne and pink; the flowers were done by Megan’s mother’s shop, Natural Treasures.

HER DRESS: Megan wore a champagne dress with ivory overlay by Morilee, which she purchased online. She attached the sleeves from her mother’s dress to hers in a sentimenta­l gesture..

BRIDESMAID­S’ ATTIRE: Bridesmaid­s wore champagne metallic dresses from David’s Bridal.

MEN’S ATTIRE: Cody wore a charcoal suit from Men’s Wearhouse. The groomsmen wore black suits, also from Men’s Wearhouse.

MUSIC: DJ Stinger provided the music. The couple’s first dance was to “Who I Am With You” by Chris Young.

FOOD AND DESSERT: Hightopps Backstage Grille in Timonium catered the wedding. Appetizers included crab dip, bacon-wrapped scallops, cheese, crackers and fruit. Dinner consisted of beef brisket, turkey, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and a macaroni bar. The couple also served peach sundaes by their family friend Stan Dabkowski.

FAVORS: The couple handed out rosette awards ribbons adorned with the couple’s photo.

SPECIAL TOUCHES: The couple went on a cruise to Jamaica and Bermuda for their honeymoon.
