Jones helps lift Loyola men over Mount St. Mary’s

Jarred Jones (John Carroll) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead host Loyola Maryland to a 64-57 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday.

Jones was 6-for-11 from the field and made all three of his free throws for the Greyhounds (4-4), who were 23-for-27 from the foul line.

Andre Walker made five free throws in the final 34 seconds to seal the win.

Elijah Long (John Carroll) scored 16 points with three assists and five rebounds for the Mountainee­rs (1-8), who scored just 13 points in the final 11-plus minutes and have lost five straight games.

OLD DOMINION 60, TOWSON 58: B.J. Stith scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds as the visiting Monarchs (5-2) won their third straight, beating the Tigers (4-4).

Stith blocked Deshaun Morman’s jumper with eight seconds left with Old Dominion leading by two. He rebounded the block and made both free throws after getting fouled with five seconds left.

RUTGERS 72, MORGAN STATE 58: Deshawn Freeman had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the host Scarlet Knights (7-1) past the Bears (2-6).

Tiwian Kendley had 26 points and Phillip Carr 15 for the Bears, who led by seven points three times early in the first half but fell behind during a 13-0 run that gave Rutgers a 25-19 advantage.

UMBC 98, MESSIAH 59: Max Curran scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Nolan Gerrity and Joe Sherburne each added 14 points, and the host Retrievers (6-1) made a school-record 19 3-pointers in routing the Division III Falcons (2-3).

FURMAN 79, NAVY 46: The host Paladins (4-4) outscored the Midshipmen (3-6) by 41-16 in the first half to take control.

Ryan Pearson led Navy with 13 points.

Women

LOYOLA MARYLAND 58, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 53: The host Greyhounds (3-4) outscored the Mount (2-5) by 16-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Freshman Alexis Gray had a career-high 19 points, including hitting a personal-best five 3-pointers.

TOWSON 69, COPPIN STATE 65: Led by Sianni Martin, who scored 15 of her team-high 23 points in the second half, the host Tigers (6-1) rallied from a 16-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Eagles (0-7).

Coppin’s Tiara Goode came off the bench and made eight of 11 3-point attempts, breaking the school record of seven set by Natasha Parks in 1996. The Eagles made 11 3-pointers, also a school record.

NAVY 88, CLEVELAND STATE 63: All 12 Mids played and scored as host Navy (5-3) beat the Vikings (2-4) at the Navy Classic.

The Mids made 11 3-pointers. In another Navy Classic game, Richmond beat Liberty, 63-54.
