Towson tops Drexel, 69-65, for fourth straight victory

Coppin State, Mount, Navy are victorious; Loyola, Morgan State fall short

John Davis scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Towson held off host Drexel, 69-65, on Saturday for its fourth straight victory.

Jordan McNeil scored eight straight points to give the Tigers (17-10, 9-5 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) an 11-point lead with nine minutes to go before the Dragons (9-18, 3-11) rallied to take a 62-61 lead with 21⁄2 minutes remaining when Kurk Lee Jr. made a free throw for his eighth point in a 16-4 run. But Davis had a basket and Mike Morsell added a jumper, then got behind the defense for a breakaway dunk for a 67-63 edge with a minute to go.

COPPIN STATE 76, BETHUNE-COOKMAN 72: Dejuan Clayton led six players into double figures with 15 points and Tre’ Thomas hit a pair of free throws with 1.2 seconds on the clock as the host Eagles (6-20, 5-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) held on to beat the Wildcats (5-19, 2-8).

Terry Harris added 14 points for Coppin State, Thomas and Keith Shivers scored 13 each as the Eagles held on down the stretch.

Quinton Forrest drove for a layup that pulled Bethune-Cookman into a 72-72 tie with 1:47 left, but Shivers put the Eagles right back on top and Bethune-Cookman couldn’t get any of three final shots to fall.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 78, LOYOLA MARYLAND 63: Eric Fanning had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals to help the host Terriers (15-11, 10-4 Patriot League) beat the Greyhounds (13-12, 7-7).

Fanning scored 27 in the first game of the series this season — a 77-69 BU loss. Last season, he set a career high with 37 points against Loyola.

NAVY 68, LAFAYETTE 60: Bryce Dulin scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Shawn Anderson added 11 points, and the host Midshipmen (15-11, 10-4 Patriot League) shot 60 percent in the second half to overcome a slow start and beat the Leopards (7-18, 3-11).

MOUNT ST. MARY’S 81, SAINT FRANCIS (PA.) 62: Elijah Long (John Carroll) scored 25 points with a career-high five 3-pointers plus eight assists, Miles Wilson (Mount Saint Joseph) added 20 points with seven rebounds, and the visiting Mount (14-13, 12-2 Northeast Conference) used a 24-0 second-half run to beat the Red Flash (11-14, 8-6).

DELAWARE STATE 56, MORGAN STATE 45: Devin Morgan scored 18 points and the visiting Hornets (9-18, 6-6 MEAC) extended their winning streak to four games. The Bears fell to 10-13 and 7-3. NORFOLK STATE 75, UMES 69: Jonathan Wade scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Kerwin Okoro added 15 points, and the host Spartans (12-13, 9-2 MidEastern Athletic Conference) ran their winning streak to eight.

Bakari Copeland had a game-high 22 points for the Hawks (8-17, 5-5).
