CHESAPEAKE 2, C. MILTON WRIGHT 0: A goal early in the game and a spectacular save late in the first half was all the Chesapeake needed to repeat as state champion.

Eryn Beal put the Cougars ahead early, while Eve Vickery preserved the lead with a stop on a breakaway just before halftime.

Chesapeake (15-4) won its first state title in the history of the school last year, then made its way through a tough schedule this year to send its five seniors out as back-toback state champions.

“I had a core of 15 players this year who played with heart and determination,” Chesapeake coach Joan Johnson said. “I have such a great coaching staff, such good kids and parents and great support from my school. I’m really going to miss that group of seniors that won back-to-back for us.”

Beal, who had to leave the game late in the first half following a nasty collision, did her damage before going out. She weaved her way through the defense and scored at the 22:54 mark of the first half to put the Cougars ahead.

“We just needed to build our momentum. Once that first goal went in, we relaxed a little,” Beal said. “It was just a much better game once we relaxed.”
