Colgate slips past Loyola men, 77-72

Late free throws lift Coppin women

Jordan Burns scored 20 points and Dana Batt made all seven of his shots and scored 16 as Colgate defeated Loyola Maryland, 77-72, on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y.

Andre Walker made a jumper and a 3-pointer on consecutiv­e possession­s and the Greyhounds led 69-68 with 2:13 left. Jordan Swopshire countered with a pair of free throws, and Burns made a 3 with 52 seconds left and Colgate (10-9, 5-3 Patriot League) never trailed again. Colgate made 4 of 6 free throws in the last 27 seconds to wrap it up.

Loyola (5-14, 3-5) led 36-29 at halftime before the Raiders went on a 15-6 run after the break for a 44-42 lead with 16:13 to play. Batt scored six during the run and Burns had five points.

Walker led the Greyhounds with 22 points, Chuck Champion scored 14, Cam Gregory, 13 and Andrew Kostecka 11.

UNC-WILMINGTON 73, TOWSON 71, OT:Jordon Talley made a 3-pointer and Jaylen Fornes followed with a dunk in the final minute of overtime as the host Seahawks (6-14, 3-5 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) held off the Tigers (14-7, 4-4). Zane Martin led Towson with 21 points. FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON 73, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 72: Darnell Edge scored 18 points and Jahlil Jenkins scored 16 and the host Knights (6-13, 3-5 Northeast Conference) held on to beat the Mount (10-11, 4-4) and end a four-game losing streak. Junior Robinson scored 19 points for Mount St. Mary’s. NORTH CAROLINA A&T 66, UMES 64: Femi Olujobi scored 17 points and the go-ahead 3-pointer late as the visting Aggies (12-8, 5-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) beat the Hawks (5-16, 1-5) for their fifth straight win.

Tyler Jones scored 18 points, Frost added 15 and Miryne Thomas had 11 for UMES, which has lost four straight.
