Kelly nets 100th career goals as Terps top ’Nova Women
Johns Hopkins men get past Delaware; Navy women slip past Colgate in overtime
Senior Connor Kelly became the second midfielder in Maryland history to score 100 career goals as the No. 2 Terps beat No. 6 Villanova, 13-11, in men’s lacrosse Saturday afternoon.
Kelly joins Frank Urso (1973-76) as the only midfielders in program history to achieve the feat. He is the 14th Terp overall to reach the milestone.
Kelly finished the day with three goals and two assists, while sophomore Jared Bernhardt added four goals and a helper. Freshman Justin Shockey was 17-for-28 (61 percent) on faceoffs with nine ground balls and an assist.
Maryland (6-1) opened with a 4-0 run and never trailed. The run included goals from four players: Kelly, Louis Dubick, Bernhardt and Bubba Fairman.
Villanova (6-2) scored its first goal nearly 14 minutes into the game and proceeded to cut the Terps’ lead to 4-3, but a three-goal run in the final 6:12 of the half gave Maryland a 7-3 advantage.
NO. 10 JOHNS HOPKINS 14, DELAWARE 8: Shack Stanwick (Boys’ Latin) had two goals and five assists to help the host Blue Jays (5-2) down the Blue Hens (3-4).
Stanwick has totaled seven points in back-to-back games and is 16 points away from 200 career points. Delaware’s losing streak extended to four games.
Kyle Marr had a natural hat trick to start a 7-0 run for Hopkins to conclude the scoring. He scored the game-tying goal with four seconds left in the third quarter and the go-ahead with 14:21 left in the game.
BRYANT 20, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 11: The host Bulldogs (3-5, 1-0 Northeast Conference), led by Marc O’Rourke with a game-high six goals, took a 5-0 lead and cruised past the Mount (3-5, 0-1). Chris DiPretoro had a hat trick for Mount St. Mary’s, which had won its previous two games.
SALISBURY 7, WASHINGTON COLLEGE 6, OT: Corey Gwin scored the game-winner with 56 seconds left in overtime to lift the host Sea Gulls (6-2) over the Shoremen (5-2) in the War on the Shore Charles B. Clark Cup.
This was the first overtime game between the two Eastern Shore rivals since 1999. Gwin finished with four goals.
NO. 10 NAVY 13, COLGATE 12, OT: Jenna Collins (River Hill) scored the tying and winning goals to lift the host Mids (6-2, 1-0) over the Raiders (5-3, 0-1).
Collins, who finished with five goals, tied the game with 22 seconds left in regulation and won it with 16 seconds left in overtime.
NO. 12 LOYOLA MARYLAND 15, ARMY WEST POINT 3: Frankie Kamely and Hannah Powers each scored four goals and the host Greyhounds (6-2, 1-0 Patriot League) won their fifth straight. The Black Knights fell to 5-3, 0-1.
NO. 1 STONY BROOK 13 NO. 13 TOWSON 8: Emily Gillingham had a hat trick, but the visiting Tigers (5-2) fell to the Seawolves (7-0). Stony Brook took a four-goal lead in the first half.
Kylie Ohlmiller had a game-high seven goals for Stony Brook.
UMBC 13, LONGWOOD 10: Lauren McDonald (Catonsville) had four goals to lead the visiting Retrievers (7-2) past the Lancers (3-5). UMBC took an 8-5 lead in the first half.
GEORGE WASHINGTON 10, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 7: Jillian Petito had 14 saves, but the visiting Mount (4-4) fell to the Colonials (6-1). Mount St. Mary’s fell behind 5-2 in the first half and couldn’t recover.
