Late TD spoils Bears’ homecoming

Salisburgy stays unbeaten with overtime victory; Johns Hopkins dominates F&M

Tyrece Nick’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Omar Cummings with 70 seconds remaining sent visiting South Carolina State past Morgan State, 21-18, on Saturday.

Morgan State led 18-14 with 2:24 left and missed an opportunity to extend the lead when Alex Raya’s 27-yard field goal was off to the left. Nick then proceeded to lead a 7-play, 80-yard drive for the game-winning score.

The Bears took the ensuing kickoff and marched to South Carolina State’s 22-yard line with 20 seconds to play. But on first-and-10, Scott Robinson intercepted DeAndre Harris — who threw into double coverage — in the end zone to preserve the win on homecoming day at Morgan State.

Nick led the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-2 MidEastern Athletic Conference) with 139 yards passing and 45 yards rushing and a touchdown. Morgan State quarterback Harris threw for 141 yards and touchdown, ran for 78 but was intercepted twice. Morgan State (1-4, 1-1) managed to outgain the Bulldogs 339-275, and held the ball for almost 36 minutes.

SALISBURY 27, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 24, OT: Khari Chase had a 13-yard touchdown run in overtime to lift the Sea Gulls (5-0, 4-0 New Jersey) over the host Captains (3-2, 2-2). Salisbury led 21-0 in the first half before Christopher Newport rallied in the second half.

FROSTBURG STATE 35, WESLEY 34: Jamaal Morant (Milford Mill) scored the game-winning touchdown with 2:43 left in the game to lift the visiting Bobcats (4-0-, 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) over the Wolverines (4-1, 3-1).

Frostburg State led 21-20 going into the fourth quarter where both teams scored 14 points.

JOHNS HOPKINS 42, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 12: David Tammaro was 24of-34 passing for 290 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 89 yards and a touchdown as the visiting Blue Jays (5-1, 4-1 Centennial Conference) routed the Diplomats (4-2, 3-2).

Johns Hopkins scored three touchdowns per half in the victory.

CHOWAN 42, BOWIE STATE 23: Jacquae Peart made a 37-yard interception return on the opening play 15 seconds into the game for the host Hawks (2-3, 1-1 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) who rolled past the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1).

DICKINSON 27, MCDANIEL 20: The visiting Red Devils (2-4, 2-3 Centennial) opened with a 10-0 lead and beat the Green Terror (3-3, 2-3).

McDaniel’s Matt Cathey had 10 carries for 50 yards and two touchdown runs.

The Green Terror drew within 24-20 before Trystin Golowski made a 29-yard fied goal with 4:35 left in the game.

STEVENSON 36, LEBANON VALLEY 7: Ty Crabb had 113 yards rushing and 199 yards passing in his first career start for the host Mustangs (4-2, 3-1 Middle Atlantic Conference).

Crabb had one passing and two rushing touchdowns.

Stevenson defense held the Flying Dutchmen (0-5, 0-3) to 211 yards of total offense.
