T. Flacco throws Tigers to triumph

QB helps Towson rout Albany, 56-28; Frostburg St., Stevenson, Hopkins all win

Tom Flacco threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as Towson football took an early lead and held it, beating host Albany, 56-28, on Saturday.

The win marked the fifth straight. Flacco was 23 of 36 for 306 yards for the Tigers (6-1, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association). He also ran for 80 yards. Shane Leatherbury had 114 yards and a score receiving.

Shane Simpson ran for a score from the 3 late in the first quarter and Aidan O'Neill added a 27-yard field goal and the Tigers were up 10-0.

In the second, Flacco ran for a 5-yard score, Yeedee Thaenrat broke out for a 42-yard scoring run and Flacco threw a pair of touchdowns, a 17-yarder to Jabari Allen and a 41-yarder to Leatherbury, and Towson took a 38-21 advantage into halftime. Vincent Testaverde, son of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Vinny Testaverde, threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns for the Great Danes (2-5, 0-4).

HOWARD 35, MORGAN STATE 26: The visiting Bison (3-3, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) finished strong on a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to beat the Bears (2-5, 1-2).

FROSTBURG STATE 24, MONTCLAIR STATE 17: Jamaal Morant (Milford Mill) had touchdown runs of 10 yards and 1 yard to lead the visiting Bobcats (6-0, 5-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) past the Red Hawks (5-2, 4-2). Morant had 19 carries for 47 yards. Connor Cox (South River) completed 16 of 28 passes for 298 yards and one touchdown pass.

Frostburg finished with 351 yards in offense and limited the Red Hawks to just 274. Aside from it's 80-yard scoring drive in the fourth, the second half saw Montclair punt three times, throw an interception to Palmer and turn the ball over on downs on its final possession.

STEVENSON 33, WILKES 21: Chaz Lyles was in on four of his team’s five touchdowns to lead the host Mustangs (6-2, 5-1 Middle Atlantic Conference) past the Colonels (4-4, 3-3). Lyles (2-for-2 for 51 yards) threw two touchdown passes, rushed four times for 41 yards and touchdown and made a touchdown reception, making 11 catches for a 113 yards.

BOWIE STATE 27, VIRGINIA UNION 13: The visiting Bulldogs (6-2, 3-1 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) beat the Panthers (5-2, 3-1) to take first place (2-1) in the North Division.

Virginia Union scored on the game’s opening possession when Jefferson Souza kicked a 39-yard field goal with 10:54 on the clock.

Bowie State senior Amir Hall connected with Brandon Abrams (Milford Mill) for a 56-yard touchdown at the 9:39 mark of the first quarter. Junior Gene Carson booted a 17-yard field with 4:03 left in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs a 10-3 lead.

Carson added another field goal, this time for 23 yards with five seconds left in the second quarter to send Bowie State into halftime with a 13-3 advantage.

Maurice Williams (St. Frances) scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Hall to give Bowie State a 20-10 advantage with 11:57 to go in the contest. With the TD pass, Hall became the CIAA's All-Time leader in TD passes surpassing Earl “Air” Harvey (N.C. Central) record of 89.

JOHNS HOPKINS 51, GETTYSBURG 14: Stuart Walters rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns and accounted for 179 allpurpose yards and three touchdowns to lift the visiting Blue Jays (6-1, 5-1 Centennial Conference) over the Bullets (1-6, 1-5). The win marked the fifth straight for Hopkins.

The Blue Jays led 13-0 at the end of the first quarter on the strength of two scoring drives that totaled just six plays and needed less than 90 seconds.

David Tammaro threw a 73-yard screen pass to Walters to give Hopkins a 6-0 lead.

Blue Jay defense forced a Gettysburg punt deep in its own territory that set Hopkins up at the Bullet 43-yard line. Four-plays, including three straight completions to Luke McFadden, later and the Blue Jays had their 13-0 lead. Tammaro capped the drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass to McFadden.

The Bullets cut the deficit to 13-7 early in the second quarter. Johns Hopkins would add another Walters touchdown for a 20-7 halftime lead.

SALISBURY 33, SOUTHERN VIRGINIA 0:Mike-Ryan Moford had four rushing touchdowns and Trevor Skoglund made two field goals as the visiting Sea Gulls (7-0, 6-0 NJAC) shut out the Knights (2-5, 1-5). The win marked the third shutout of the season for Salibury. The Sea Gulls beat Kean, 28-0, on Sept. 15 and William Paterson, 42-0, on Sept. 29.

MUHLENBERG 42, MCDANIEL 18: Nah’shon Godfrey (City) had a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown, but the visiting Green Terror (3-4, 2-3 Centennial Conference) fell to the Mules (7-0, 6-0). Muhlenberg took a 28-3 lead in the first half and outgained McDaniel, 404-263. Issac Murray (Atholton) ran for a career-high 138 yards for the Green Terror.
