Morse lifts Mount men out of skid

Vado Morse had 23 points as Mount St. Mary’s nar­rowly beat host Sa­cred Heart 76-73 on Satur­day in men’s bas­ket­ball. Jalen Gibbs added 21 points for the Moun­taineers. Gibbs also had six re­bounds for the Moun­taineers.

Ma­lik Jef­fer­son had 13 points for Mount St. Mary’s (6-19, 3-9 North­east Con­fer­ence), which snapped its four-game los­ing streak.

Sean Hoehn had 24 points for the Pi­o­neers (11-14, 7-5). Koreem Ozier added 18 points. Kin­non LaRose had 15 points.

The Moun­taineers evened the sea­son se­ries against the Pi­o­neers. Sa­cred Heart de­feated Mount St. Mary’s 87-79 on Jan. 31.

COLGATE 75, LOY­OLA MARY­LAND 72: Will Ray­man and Rap­o­las Ivanauskas scored 24 points apiece as the host Raiders (15-10, 7-5 Pa­triot League) edged the Grey­hounds (8-17, 4-8).

An­drew Kostecka had 25 points for Loy­ola, which has now lost four con­sec­u­tive games. Chuck Cham­pion added 18 points.

TOW­SON 66, JAMES MADI­SON 59: Brian Fobbs had 29 points to lead the host Tigers (9-16, 5-7 Colo­nial Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion) past the Dukes (10-15, 3-9).

Nakye San­ders had eight re­bounds for Tow­son. Den­nis Tun­stall added seven re­bounds. S.C. STATE 85, MOR­GAN STATE 81: Stan­ley Davis scored 20 points, but the Bears (8-15, 3-7 Mid-Eastern Ath­letic Con­fer­ence) fell to the host Bull­dogs (5-20, 3-6).

SA­VAN­NAH STATE 71, COP­PIN STATE 62: Kent Aus­lan­der scored 20 points, but the vis­it­ing Ea­gles (5-20, 5-5 MEAC) couldn’t over­come a 42-25 first-half deficit to the Tigers (8-15, 5-4).

N.C. CEN­TRAL 78, UMES 53: Ryan Andino had 13 points, but the Hawks (4-22, 2-9 MEAC) lost to the host Ea­gles (11-13, 6-4).

LE­HIGH 83, NAVY 57: The loss ended a two-game win­ning streak by the vis­it­ing Mids (8-15, 5-7 Pa­triot League). The Moun­tain Hawks im­proved to 16-7, 9-3.

Women

MOR­GAN STATE 63, S.C. STATE 61: Adre’onia Cole­man (St. Frances) made two free throws with 17 sec­onds left for a 63-58 lead and the Bears (8-16, 6-4 MEAC) hung on to beat the host Bull­dogs (11-12, 4-5) Cole­man and Kayla Horn each scored 13 points and Ashia McCalla had 12 points for Mor­gan State.

UMES 69, N.C. CEN­TRAL 61: Tied at 30 in the first half, the Hawks (14-10, 10-1 MEAC) used a sec­ond-half surge to beat the host Ea­gles (6-17, 3-7). Ra’Jean Martin and Do­minique Walker (Har­ford CC) each fin­ished with 16 points for UMES.

NAVY 67, COLGATE 52: Fresh­man Jennifer Cole­man scored 16 points and the host Mids (9-12, 4-7 Pa­triot) broke a five-game los­ing streak by beat­ing the Raiders (9-12, 5-6).

SA­VAN­NAH STATE 68, COP­PIN STATE 57: Brooke Fields (In­sti­tute of Notre Dame) scored a sea­son-best 26 points for a third time in the loss for the vis­it­ing Ea­gles (2-20, 2-8 MEAC) to the Tigers (5-13, 3-6).

HOLY CROSS 58, LOY­OLA MARY­LAND 48: Stephanie Karcz had 18 points, but the host Grey­hounds (3-18, 2-8 Pa­triot) lost to the Cru­saders (12-9, 4-6).

MAINE 58, UMBC 45: The host Retriev­ers (8-15, 1-9 Amer­ica East) held the Black Bears (17-7, 10-1) to their sec­ond low­est scor­ing game in league play, but com­mit­ted 29 turnovers.

Tey’Jah Oliver and Ja­nee’a Sum­mers each scored 10 points for UMBC.

SA­CRED HEART 76, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 41: The host Pi­o­neers (11-10, 7-3 North­east Con­fer­ence) opened with a 24-6 run and cruised past the Mount (10-11, 4-6). Michaela Har­ri­son had 14 points for Mount St. Mary’s.
