Alwaysmini­ng remains on roll at Laurel Park

Runnymede Racing LLC’s Alwaysmini­ng won his fourth consecutiv­e race and third consecutiv­e stakes with a 41⁄4-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Miracle Wood presented by Blackwell Real Estate at Laurel Park. A 3-year-old gelded son of Stay Thirsty, trained by Kelly Rubley and ridden by Daniel Centeno, Alwaysmini­ng covered the mile in 1:35.27. Gray Magician, who shipped from California, finished second by a nose over Tybalt. Alwaysmini­ng, a Maryland-bred coming into the Miracle Wood off a victory Dec. 29 in the Heft at Laurel, went to the front under Centeno and cruised through surprising­ly mild fractions of :24.23 and :47.51 while Wendell Fong and Gray Magician chased the leader. Entering the stretch, Centeno asked Alwaysmini­ng and the colt responded by opening up to a clear advantage. Breeze Easy’s Late Night Pow Wow extended her win streak to nine races in dramatic fashion, turning away defending champion Ms Locust Point and holding off Grade 1 winner Spiced Perfection to win the $250,000 Barbara Fritchie (G3) by a head . .... Three Diamonds Farm’s Bonus Points, trailing all but one horse after a half-mile, swept to the lead on the far outside and outfought favored Monongahel­a through the stretch to win the $100,000 John B. Megan Konig (Mount Hebron) hit two crucial late free throws and led Salisbury’s women’s basketball team with 15 points in a 51-47 victory over Frostburg State . ... Liv Storer led McDaniel with 14 points in a 53-46 loss Haverford . ... Bowie State (20-4) defeated Chowan, 65-45, as Pere Alexander led the way with 23 points . ... Junior Hannah Crist had a career-high 21 points as Stevenson closed the regular season with a 67-47 win over Albright . ... Emily Thiemann had 12 points and six rebounds in Washington College’s 63-59 victory over Dickinson.

DJ Harper led McDaniel with 18 points and seven rebounds in a 77-59 loss to Swarthmore . ... Mike Ward (St. Paul’s) scored 25 points to lead Salisbury to a 90-83 victory over Frostburg State.

Mount St. Mary’s captured its first Northeast Conference women’s championsh­ip in 22 years at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Erin Jakot was named the meet’s most valuable performer as the Mount took home the team title with 138 points. The Mount men’s team finished in sixth place at the meet.
