Al­waysmin­ing re­mains on roll at Lau­rel Park

Run­nymede Rac­ing LLC’s Al­waysmin­ing won his fourth con­sec­u­tive race and third con­sec­u­tive stakes with a 41⁄4-length vic­tory in Satur­day’s $100,000 Mir­a­cle Wood pre­sented by Black­well Real Es­tate at Lau­rel Park. A 3-year-old gelded son of Stay Thirsty, trained by Kelly Rub­ley and rid­den by Daniel Cen­teno, Al­waysmin­ing cov­ered the mile in 1:35.27. Gray Ma­gi­cian, who shipped from Cal­i­for­nia, fin­ished sec­ond by a nose over Ty­balt. Al­waysmin­ing, a Mary­land-bred com­ing into the Mir­a­cle Wood off a vic­tory Dec. 29 in the Heft at Lau­rel, went to the front un­der Cen­teno and cruised through sur­pris­ingly mild frac­tions of :24.23 and :47.51 while Wen­dell Fong and Gray Ma­gi­cian chased the leader. En­ter­ing the stretch, Cen­teno asked Al­waysmin­ing and the colt re­sponded by open­ing up to a clear ad­van­tage. Breeze Easy’s Late Night Pow Wow ex­tended her win streak to nine races in dra­matic fash­ion, turn­ing away de­fend­ing cham­pion Ms Lo­cust Point and hold­ing off Grade 1 win­ner Spiced Per­fec­tion to win the $250,000 Bar­bara Fritchie (G3) by a head . .... Three Diamonds Farm’s Bonus Points, trail­ing all but one horse af­ter a half-mile, swept to the lead on the far out­side and out­fought fa­vored Monon­ga­hela through the stretch to win the $100,000 John B. Camp­bell . ... Me­gan Konig (Mount He­bron) hit two cru­cial late free throws and led Sal­is­bury’s women’s bas­ket­ball team with 15 points in a 51-47 vic­tory over Frost­burg State . ... Liv Storer led McDaniel with 14 points in a 53-46 loss Haver­ford . ... Bowie State (20-4) de­feated Chowan, 65-45, as Pere Alexan­der led the way with 23 points . ... Ju­nior Hannah Crist had a ca­reer-high 21 points as Steven­son closed the reg­u­lar sea­son with a 67-47 win over Al­bright . ... Emily Thie­mann had 12 points and six re­bounds in Wash­ing­ton Col­lege’s 63-59 vic­tory over Dick­in­son.

DJ Harper led McDaniel with 18 points and seven re­bounds in a 77-59 loss to Swarth­more . ... Mike Ward (St. Paul’s) scored 25 points to lead Sal­is­bury to a 90-83 vic­tory over Frost­burg State.

Cody Pas­cale had five goals and two as­sists and Cooper Sloan added four goals and three as­sists as Wash­ing­ton Col­lege de­feated Berry, 21-12 . ... Jude Brown (John Car­roll) had four goals for St. Mary’s in a 13-10 loss to Dick­in­son.

Mount St. Mary’s cap­tured its first North­east Con­fer­ence women’s cham­pi­onship in 22 years at the Ocean Breeze Ath­letic Com­plex. Erin Jakot was named the meet’s most valu­able performer as the Mount took home the team ti­tle with 138 points. The Mount men’s team fin­ished in sixth place at the meet.
