Black and White Soiree

Baltimore Sun Sunday - - FAMILY -

She had a fashion emergency. And her feet hurt. But Valerie Gonzales, 35, dazzled at the Black and White Soiree at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center Hotel.

Gonzales, a fifth-grade special-education teacher at KIPP Baltimore, admits that the glammed-up look is a slight departure from her typical work attire.

“I’m a teacher. Not a model,” the Odenton resident joked to her dapper boyfriend, Michael Parker, as she sat down to rest her feet. “They hurt like hell because they are a half-size smaller than I wear.”

Minutes before the party was supposed to start, Gonzales discovered that Parker forgot her shoes at home, which resulted in him going to a nearby Macy’s to purchase another pair of heels. Although the replacement heels were flashy and matched her ball gown, they were a bit small.

“I can’t marry you until you know my shoe size,” she laughed.

And speaking of her ball gown, she revealed that she found it on the discount fashion site Fashion Nova.

“I’m a baller on a budget,” she said with a laugh.

But at the end of the night, Parker said his girlfriend looked amazing.

“She makes anything look amazing: sweatpants, me,” he said. “He came though in the clutch,” she said. HER ENSEMBLE: Sleeveless black ballgown from Fashion Nova. Sparkling heels by Nina NY, picked out by her boyfriend at Macy’s just minutes before the event. Bracelet earrings and necklace, all from Aldo. Sparkly clutch was purchased at DSW.
