One Night for One Love

Rachel Mech, 34, might have been a real-life Baltimore-area business and family law attorney. However, the Fells Point resident credited some fictional legal types for inspiring her personal style that translates well from work to “play.”

“My everyday life, it’s pretty conservative. I work for a law firm. The black skirt suit is the uniform for female attorneys. But I like things a little more feminine,” she said.

Enter the TV show “Suits,” and its stars Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty, and her favorite — Meghan Markle, before she began dating her now-husband, Britain’s Prince Harry.

“They changed the uniform a bit. So, it makes veering away from the standard uniform a little easier these days,” said Mech, noting that the show’s female stars generally dress in form-fitting dresses that have a touch of sexiness.

“I’d rather be more ‘Suits’ than ‘Law & Order.’ The attorneys in ‘Law & Order’ are always in the standard black suit,” she noted.

Mech said she generally chooses form-fitting dresses for work — Ted Baker being among her favorite designers of such. If the dress doesn’t have sleeves, she said she adds a blazer to make it work appropriate.

That formula also made it easy to ramp up the look for the after- work event — One Night for One Love — supporting her favorite cause, the One Love Foundation. A quick change of shoes and bag, and the evening was on.

HER ENSEMBLE: Ted Baker floral print dress, Vince Camuto brushed gold block heel sandals and BaubleBar gold and cream threaded floral earrings from Nordstrom. Monogrammed J. Crew gold clutch that was a bridesmaid gift. Gold and sapphire necklace that was a high school graduation gift to match her Notre Dame Preparatory school ring — “In 2003, I was a senior there when Yeardley Love was a freshman. We were both on the varsity lacrosse team together, and we won the championship that year.”
