Sabres cel­e­brate be­fore cruis­ing

Rookie Vic­tor Olof­s­son scored twice and the Sabres kicked off the home­open­ing por­tion of their 50th an­niver­sary sea­son with a 7-2 romp over the Devils.

With former stars in­clud­ing Gil­bert Per­reault on hand, the Sabres had a sold-out house roar­ing from the pregame cer­e­mony, through a three­goal sec­ond pe­riod and once more when Sam Rein­hart capped the rout on a break­away with 3:44 re­main­ing.

Un­der new coach Ralph Krueger, the Sabres are off to their first 2-0 start since the 2012-13 lock­out-short­ened sea­son.

Rein­hart scored twice while cap­tain Jack Eichel and Jeff Skin­ner had a goal and as­sist each, and Carter Hut­ton made 18 saves.

Pan­thers stop slump: Mike Hoff­man recorded his sec­ond ca­reer hat trick to lift the Pan­thers to a 4-3 win over the Light­ning.

Noel Ac­ciari also scored and Sergei Bo­brovsky made 29 saves for his first win with the Pan­thers, who broke a seven-game los­ing streak to the Light­ning.
