Sens’ Sabourin in hospital after hit
Senators forward Scott Sabourin was taken to a hospital for evaluation after being taken from the ice on a stretcher with his head immobilized following a collision with Bruins forward David Backes early in the first period.
The Senators sent an update on their Twitter feed that Sabourin was conscious and speaking with attending doctors while leaving the arena in Boston.
Sabourin had skated up to make a hit on Backes when the players’ helmets collided. Sabourin immediately feel to the ice, appearing to be unconscious, and he lay motionless for a brief period.
Medical staff from both teams rushed to Sabourin, and a Bruins’ trainer quickly signaled for a stretcher. There was a large blood spot on the ice under Sabourin’s face.
Draisaitl lifts Oilers in OT: Leon Draisaitl scored 2:37 into overtime to give the Oilers a 2-1 win over the Penguins on Saturday.
Draisaitl had Alex Galchenyuk on his back when he flipped a rolling puck past Matt Murray on a breakaway for the gamewinner and his NHL-best 13th goal of the season. Draisaitl has seven goals and 10 points during a five-game point streak.
Colby Cave also scored and Mike Smith stopped 51 shots for the Oilers.
Brian Dumoulin scored short-handed for the Penguins, who have lost four of their last six.
