Sens’ Sabourin in hos­pi­tal af­ter hit

Senators for­ward Scott Sabourin was taken to a hos­pi­tal for eval­u­a­tion af­ter be­ing taken from the ice on a stretcher with his head im­mo­bi­lized fol­low­ing a col­li­sion with Bru­ins for­ward David Backes early in the first pe­riod.

The Senators sent an up­date on their Twit­ter feed that Sabourin was con­scious and speak­ing with at­tend­ing doc­tors while leav­ing the arena in Bos­ton.

Sabourin had skated up to make a hit on Backes when the play­ers’ hel­mets col­lided. Sabourin im­me­di­ately feel to the ice, ap­pear­ing to be un­con­scious, and he lay mo­tion­less for a brief pe­riod.

Med­i­cal staff from both teams rushed to Sabourin, and a Bru­ins’ trainer quickly sig­naled for a stretcher. There was a large blood spot on the ice un­der Sabourin’s face.

Drai­saitl lifts Oil­ers in OT: Leon Drai­saitl scored 2:37 into over­time to give the Oil­ers a 2-1 win over the Pen­guins on Satur­day.

Drai­saitl had Alex Galchenyuk on his back when he flipped a rolling puck past Matt Mur­ray on a break­away for the gamewin­ner and his NHL-best 13th goal of the sea­son. Drai­saitl has seven goals and 10 points dur­ing a five-game point streak.

Colby Cave also scored and Mike Smith stopped 51 shots for the Oil­ers.

Brian Du­moulin scored short-handed for the Pen­guins, who have lost four of their last six.
