St. Frances girls capture 13th straight at Pittsburgh event
No. 1 St. Frances girls basketball won its 13th straight game beating Oakland Catholic (Pa.), 67-34, at the Stand Against Violence Showcase tournament in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
St. Frances faces Imhotep Charter (Pa.) in Sunday’s second round at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia. The Panthers (14-1) haven’t lost a game since Dec. 12 when they fell to Riverdale Baptist, 57-53, at the DMV Super Games.
The Eagles fell to 8-4.
Carroll Christian 46, Granite Baptist 29: Sydney Wooden scored her 1,000th career point and led the Patriots (8-3) past the host Braves (5-9) on Friday. Wooden finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals.
Camille Echegoyen had 12 points and eight rebounds for Carroll Christian, which led 23-14 in the first half. Quynn Reed had a game-high 20 points for Granite Baptist.
Carroll Christian 71, Granite Baptist 63: Josiah Albaugh and Reggie Tinsley each scored 13 points and Sean Goldsmith had 12 points to lead the visiting Patriots (8-7) over the Braves (8-7) Friday.
Carroll Christian had five players score between nine and 13 points. Granite Baptist took a five-point lead before the Patriots scored 29 points in the fourth quarter to win.
South River 72, Severna Park 71: Jamison Gaskins collected 15 points and 10 rebounds and Dom Mirack had 12 points as the Seahawks just got by the Falcons.
David Foust scored nine points and Cash Herndon had eight points for South River (8-6).
Meade 60, Glen Burnie 52: TJ Speight managed 18 points and six assists and Nasir Brockington produced 13 points and five assists as the Mustangs won on the road for the first time this season by defeating the Gophers Friday night.
St. John’s C. P. 79, Severn 56: Adam Angwafo registered 14 points, while Ian Munroe and Baylin Groff provided 11 points apiece, but the Admirals (5-11) fell to the Vikings Friday night.
Northeast 46, Chesapeake 36: Jaylin Albury scored 14 points and handed out six assists and Trent McNeill contributed 10 points and five assists as the Eagles beat the rival Cougars on Friday night. Darrell Sheppard finished with nine points and eight rebounds for Northeast (10-3).
Old MIll 77, North County 73: Kyjuan Johnson registered 21 points and Nick Stacey pitched in with 11 points as the Patriots defeated the Knights.
St. Mary’s 49, Chapelgate 36: Mike Parme accounted for 16 points and Jacob Aryee was responsible for 14 points as the Saints handled the Yellow Jackets Friday night.
