The Black and White Party

-

Kara D. Beverly, 37, looked both polished and playful in the ensemble she wore to the Black and White Party. With every aspect of her look well-planned, Beverly worked from the ground up. “I wanted to wear something on [the ‘Wizard of Oz’] theme. I started the outfit with the shoes. I wanted to wear red shoes, but not Dorothy red-sequined pumps. I was on this mad search looking online for red pumps I could wear again,” said the Towson resident.

“I had bought the dress over a year ago; it was less than $30. But I hadn’t worn it. I figured everyone would be wearing black. So, I thought, if it still fits, I’ll go with the white dress,” Beverly said.

The theme connection continued with all the accessories for this detail-oriented Johns Hopkins University compliance investigator/ attorney.

“I’m a fan of [the musical] ‘The Wiz,’ and there’s a scene when she [Dorothy] gets to Emerald City and a song — ‘Emerald City Sequence: Red, Green and Gold.’ So, I knew I wanted to wear those three colors,” she explained. She ordered the emerald earrings and a matching statement necklace from amazon.com, but found the necklace made the outfit look a little too Christmas-y. So, she kept the earrings on and went with the on-theme gold necklace instead. The final touch? “The red heart purse. The Tin Man is my favorite ‘Wizard of Oz’ character, so it was in tribute to him,” she said. HER ENSEMBLE: White sheath with cut-out back and puffed sleeves from fashionnova.com. Steve Madden red patent leather pumps from stevemadden.com. Gold multi-chain necklace she’s had for years. Emerald rhinestone drop earrings and red heartshaped evening bag — both from amazon.com — and ordered specifically for the event. Pearl stud earrings from J.Crew.
