Salvatore P. Ercolano, Sr., age 95 of Timonium, Md., passed away at Mercy Ridge Retirement Community on April 5, 2021. Sal Sr. was the beloved husband of the late Nancy Ercolano (nee Sanzone), devoted father of the late Angela Mainquist and Sal P. Ercolano, Jr. (and his wife Patricia) and Maria D’Amico (and her husband Mark). Also, loving grandfathe­r of Stefanie & Bryan Ercolano, David & Victoria D’Amico, Christophe­r & Michael Mainquist, and Emily Dabrowski. Loving great-grandfathe­r of Luca Ercolano, Lily Dabrowski and Jaik Mainquist.

Sal Sr. was born in May 1925 in Sorrento (a Province of Naples), Italy. He was raised and educated during the Mussolini dictatorsh­ip in Italy. Sal graduated from the nautical school called Instituto Nino Bixio and continued his education at the Naval Academy in Livorno Italy. He eventually migrated with his mother to the United States to join his father and other family in 1946. He initially worked at Montgomery Ward and Bethlehem Steel before taking a job with National Life Insurance in 1952 where he began an extensive career in the life insurance industry. After retiring from the AIG insurance company, Sal finished his work career with the Maryland Insurance Administra­tion, providing assistance to the insurance consumer in dealing with conflicts with the insurance companies. Being proud and passionate about his heritage, Sal was very active in the Italian American community, serving on two non-political Italian cultural and social organizati­ons - the Order Sons of Italy (OSI - https:// osiamd.org/ ) and the Appian Society. Sal was a charter member of Towson Dulaney Lodge (TDL) of OSI. He served as the TDL President from 1976 to 1981, and later became the OSI’s Orator. Sal was a very active member of the Appian Society since 1955, where he served in a variety of positions in the organizati­on and its Board, and in which he participat­ed in various special event planning committees.

Service and interment are private. However, a Celebratio­n of Life gathering will be held at a later date at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc.. A notice will be posted of the date of such gathering in June 2021.
