Villanueva a maybe for Monday

OT returns to practice; 3 Colts starters ruled out

- By Jonas Shaffer

Ravens left tackle Alejandro Villanueva is considered questionable for Monday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after returning to practice Saturday.

Villanueva missed the Ravens’ first two practices this week with a knee injury suffered in Sunday’s win over the Denver Broncos, but he was back in a knee brace for Saturday’s workout. Patrick Mekari is expected to start at right tackle, but the team otherwise lacks depth at the position.

Villanueva, who has never missed a game in his NFL career, was limited in practice Saturday. Safeties DeShon Elliott (quadriceps), who sat out Week 4, and Geno Stone (thigh) are also questionable after being limited participants Saturday.

Also rejoining the offensive line Saturday was Tyre Phillips, who started the Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders at left guard before leaving with a knee injury. By returning to practice, the Ravens have designated him to return from injured reserve, meaning they have 21 days to elevate him to the active roster or place him on season-ending IR.

Left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) was ruled out of Monday’s game after missing another week of practice. Three Ravens sat out practice Saturday for rest: wide receiver Sammy Watkins, defensive end Calais Campbell and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee.

The Colts ruled out four players for Monday’s game: starting right tackle Braden Smith (foot/thumb), reserve running back Jordan Wilkins (non-football illness), starting rookie defensive end Kwity Paye (hamstring) and starting cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (ankle). Paye is Indianapolis’ top draft pick, and Ya-Sin is its top cornerback, according to Pro Football Focus.

Starting safety Kari Willis (ankle/groin) is questionable. Starting inside linebacker Darius Leonard (ankle), who was limited in practice all week, was not listed on the Colts’ injury report.

Oweh fined

The NFL fined Ravens rookie outside linebacker Odafe Oweh $11,457 for a hit that knocked Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater out of Sunday’s game.

Oweh said Wednesday that there was “no ill intent” on the second-quarter collision, which was not penalized but left Bridgewater concussed.

“Our mentality is to try to be the Ravens’ defense, bring physicality and do everything that we got to do safely, no penalties,” Oweh said. “Try to play hard-hitting football. I wish Teddy prosperity. I wasn’t trying to do anything dirty.”

Bridgewater was a full participant in practice Friday and is considered questionable for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.
