BRAYBROOKE, Geoffrey

We are saddened to announce the death of Geoffrey Braybrooke from heart failure on the 13th of January, 2023 at the age of 68. Born in Maine, he came to Canada with his family at the age of 8, and grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He received a B.Sc. at Dalhousie University and a B.Eng. at Nova Scotia Technical College. After receiving his Profession­al Engineer designatio­n he worked for several years as a mechanical engineer before obtaining a Master’s degree in industrial hygiene from McGill. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland and worked for the Defense Centers for Public Health for over 25 years until his death. He was a respected expert in a number of areas of environmen­tal safety and won a number of awards, among them an achievemen­t medal for civilian service from the US Army for his work under hazardous conditions in response to the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Geoff is survived by his mother, Alice Braybrooke, Halifax; his brother Nicholas (Christina), Vancouver, BC; his sister Elizabeth (Nicholas Portman), Sackville, NB; one niece, Kaitlyn Braybrooke, Vancouver, BC; two nephews, Frank (Shannon) Portman, Toronto, ON, and John Braybrooke, Vancouver, BC; as well as one great-niece, Clara Portman. He was predecease­d by his father, David Braybrooke, and his nephew Hugh Portman. Geoff made friends wherever he went, and will be greatly missed by those friends and dearly missed by his family. In memory of Geoff, donations may be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital, or to your local humane society.
