Carter, Billups lead ’24 Hall of Fame class

Vince Carter wowed the basketball world with his high-flying dunks for more than two decades. Chauncey Billups was a clutch guard and Finals MVP for the Pistons.

Two icons from the 2000s era of basketball are headed to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 13-member class announced Saturday also includes former Lakers, Grizzlies and Warriors executive Jerry West, who has already been inducted as a player and as a member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic team. Also in the class: players Seimone Augustus, Michael Cooper, Walter Davis, Dick Barnett and Michele Timms, coaches Charles Smith, Harley Redin and Bo Ryan, broadcaster/coach Doug Collins and owner Herb Simon.

College basketball: Iowa’s 71-69 victory over UConn at the women’s Final Four on Friday night averaged 14.2 million viewers on ESPN, making it the mostviewed women’s basketball game on record and the largest audience for an ESPN basketball broadcast.

Golf: Lottie Woad of England is the Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion with a stunning finish at the home of the Masters. She was two shots behind with five holes to play when she made a tough par save, and then had three birdies on the last four holes. The Florida State sophomore made a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th for a 69 and a one-shot victory over USC freshman Bailey Shoemaker on Saturday.

MLB: Braves ace righthander Spencer Strider has damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, an MRI revealed Saturday, leaving his status for the remainder of the season in doubt.
