Mawrtians, Sailors champs in tennis

Bryn Mawr and Mount de Sales claimed team girls tennis championsh­ips at the Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland tournament on Thursday at McDonogh.

The Mawrtians took the A Conference title behind their freshman stars. Cameron Corse fought off a challenge from Severn’s Addie Hinton, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles tournament and Lily Burchell edged McDonogh’s Julie Lazer, 7-5, 7-5, for the No. 2 singles crown.

Severn took second place in the A Conference team competitio­n while Beth Tfiloh finished second in the B Conference behind Mount de Sales.

John Carroll’s Alex Martinez outlasted Mount de Sales’ Chloe Boustany, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), to capture the No. 1 singles championsh­ip in a match that lasted three hours.

Field hockey

NO. 4 GLENELG 4, RIVER HILL 1: Stephanie Asher scored all four goals and Megan Taylor had all four assists to power the host Gladiators (13-2) past the Hawks (9-6) in a Class 2A East sectional semifinal.

Glenelg advances to face No. 14 Marriotts Ridge in Monday’s sectional final.

NO. 9 MOUNT HEBRON 7, RESERVOIR 0: Tianna Wallpher had two goals and two assists and Monica Linn had two goals and an assist to lead the host Vikings (14-1) past the Gators (3-10) in Class 3A East.

Mount Hebron faces No. 15 Westminste­r, a 3-0 winner over No. 8 Atholton, in Monday’s sectional final.

NO. 14 MARRIOTTS RIDGE 3, CENTENNIAL 0: Jasmine Williams had two goals to lead the host Mustangs (13-2) past the Eagles in a Class 2A East sectional semifinal. Centennial finished 7-8.
