No. 3 Kentucky survives test

Julius Randle posted his sixth consecutiv­e doubledoub­le with 15 points and 15 rebounds and No. 3 Kentucky found just enough offense down the stretch to spoil visiting Cleveland State’s upset bid with a 68-61 victory Monday in the Keightley Classic.

The Wildcats (5-1) shot just 35.8 percent from the field and trailed most of the game before closing on a 24-7 run.

Willie Cauley- Stein added 11 points and four blocked shots.

Bryn Forbes led the Vikings (3-3) with 22 points, and Trey Lewis scored 15 as Cleveland State led by as many as 11 points in the second half before faltering. Golden Eagles upset: Jordan Bachynski blocked Derrick Wilson’s short jumper in the final seconds and host Arizona State (6-0) escaped with the 79-77 win over No. 25 Marquette (3-2) in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy Tournament. Smart moves: Marcus Smart and Markel Brown each scored 25 points as No. 5 Oklahoma State routed host South Florida 93-67 for its fifth straight victory.

John Egbunu had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Bulls (4-1), who had 16 turnovers. Orange survive: C.J. Fair scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half and grabbed 10 rebounds as No. 8 Syracuse (5-0) defeated Minnesota 75-67 in the first round of the Maui Invitation­al. Malik Smith scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Gophers (5-1). Prather leads way: Casey Prather scored 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting as No. 15 Florida (5-1) posted an 86-60 win over host Jacksonvil­le (2-4). Buckeyes rally: Lenzelle Smith Jr. had 20 points and eight rebounds as No. 7 Ohio State (5-0) overcame a second-half deficit to turn back visiting Wyoming 6550. Spartans still No. 1: Michigan State won three games last week to stay on top of the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Spartans (6-0) received 56 first- place votes, while No. 2 Kansas picked up eight.
