No. 5 Calvert Hall pulls away in lacrosse, 16-7

Calvert Hall won five straight faceoffs Tuesday and scored on all five possession­s in the first 3:16 of the second half and pulled away from visiting No. 14 Mount Saint Joseph en route to a 16-7 victory in boys lacrosse action.

The No. 5 Cardinals (10-3, 3-2 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n A Conference) led 6-4at halftime, but senior Ryan Powers won the first four faceoffs and that led to goals from Jason Brown (three goals), Austin Glab, JT Buliosi (two goals) and Timmy Kelly (four goals, two assists).

“In the first half I was a little off the whistle,” Powers said. “I wasn’t on it right away, but in the second half I just came out and I was right on it. I got the first fast break right away and just went on from there.”

Mount St. Joseph (8-6, 2-3) was led by Bryan Costabile (three goals) and Johnny Norton (two goals).

NO. 8 SOUTH RIVER 9, SEVERNA PARK 3: Cole Fanzo scored four goals to power the Seahawks (9-1) past the host Falcons (6-5).

South River led 3-0 at halftime.

GILMAN 11, SEVERN 10: The visiting Greyhounds (3-7, 1-4 MIAA A Conference) made the most of an extra-man opportunit­y with a tie game and 1:30 left. Jimmy Williams (two goals, two assists) scored the game-winner on a feed from Jake Waxter as Gilman ended a four-game losing streak. Max Bailey finished with four goals for the Admirals (6-5, 0-5).

Girls lacrosse

NO. 2 ROLAND PARK 11, MOUNT DE SALES 9: Cameron McGee scored a game-high five goals to power the Reds (11-3, 9-2 Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland A Conference) past the host Sailors (6-9, 3-8).

NO. 9 JOHN CARROLL 14, NO. 7 BRYN MAWR 7: Caroline Sdanowich scored a game-high six goals to lead the visiting Patriots (8-4, 5-4 IAAM A Conference) past the Mawrtians (6-6, 5-4).

John Carroll led 7-3 at the break. Julie Blaze scored three goals for Bryn Mawr.

Baseball

NO. 2 ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 10, ST. PAUL’S 4: Andrew Hunt pitched six innings, gave up four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out six as the visiting Cavaliers (14-3) beat the Crusaders (7-8).

St. Paul’s scored four runs in the first inning before Hunt settled down.

Softball

NO. 1 EASTERN TECH 13, TOWSON 1: Jodie Bronushas worked five innings and gave up one run on three hits as the Mavericks (11-0) beat the host Generals.

NO. 8 SEVERNA PARK 9, ARUNDEL 1: Gracie Logan went 5-for-5 with a double and a triple and Haley Simonds worked seven innings, gave up one run on four hits and struck out 11 as the visiting Falcons (10-2) beat the Wildcats (8-3).

NO. 12 NORTHEAST 12, MEADE 0: Jenna Matulonis struck out seven in 3/ innings as the host Eagles (7-4) beat the Mustangs (0-9).

NO. 13 DULANEY 8, NO. 6 PERRY HALL 0: Hope Eckhart had a double and a triple as the Lions (7-2) scored five runs in the second inning and shut out the host Gators (8-2).
