Hamilton, Rangers shock Red Sox

Josh Hamilton’s pinch tworun double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox on Sunday.

The Rangers won their fourth series in a row. The Red Sox have lost six of their last seven games. Mets 4, Marlins 3: Bartolo Colon (8-3) tied the Mariners’ Felix Hernandez with eight wins and legged out an RBI double. Ruben Tejada’s RBI double broke a tie. Cardinals 3, Dodgers 1: Carlos Martinez pitched one-hit ball for seven shutout innings, striking out eight. Jhonny Peralta homered and drove in all three runs. Brewers 7, D’backs 6: Martin Maldonado homered in the 17th. At 5:49, it was the longest game in Miller Park history. Starter Matt Garza went five innings in relief. Angels 4, Tigers 2: Johnny Giavotella’s two-run single broke a tie in the eighth as the Angels swept the four-game series. Mike Trout and Erick Aybar also had RBIs. Reds 8, Nationals 2: Todd Frazier and Brandon Phillips homered and drove in two each as the Reds completed a three-game sweep. The Reds have won four of five. White Sox 6, Astros 0: John Danks became the only pitcher to give up at least 10 hits and five extra-base hits in a shutout since 1914, according to STATS. Indians 6, Mariners 3: Michael Brantley drew a bases-loaded walk before David Murphy’s two-run single in the 12th. The Indians outhit the Mariners 18-5. Rockies 4, Phillies 1: DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado homered in the Rockies’ fourth straight win. The Phils lost their season-worst seventh in a row. A’s 3, Yankees 0: Jesse Chavez struck out six in eight innings of seven-hit ball. Stephen Vogt hit a two-run homer. The Athletics took three of four in the series. Cubs 2, Royals 1: David Ross’ bloop RBI single won it in the 11th. Alex Gordon had three of the Royals’ four hits with an RBI. Twins 6, Blue Jays 5: Trevor Plouffe hit a two-run homer and Torii Hunter a go-ahead double. Josh Donaldson hit his 15th HR. Rays 9, Orioles 5: Steve Souza Jr. homered for the third time in three games, and Joey Butler collected a career-high four hits. Braves 7, Giants 5: Jace Peterson tripled with the bases loaded after Freddie Freeman had homered in a four-run ninth inning. Pirates at Padres: Jeff Locke tried to extend his streak of 102⁄ scoreless innings. The Pirates had won eight of their last nine.
