Terps’ Stone invited to USA Basketball U-19 camp

Maryland incoming freshman Diamond Stone has been named one of 24 players invited to participat­e in the USA Basketball men’s under-19 world championsh­ip team training camp June 12-16 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Twelve players will be selected. Stone, a McDonald’s All American, was a member of the 2014 USA U-17 world championsh­ip team and was named to the FIBA U-17 world championsh­ip all-tournament team. He averaged 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds and led the USA U-16 team to a gold medal. NATIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER LEAGUE: Washington Spirit forward Crystal Dunn was voted Player of the Week after scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Portland Thorns FC on Saturday night. FOOTBALL: Offensive lineman Randall Harris of Lanham has been selected to play on the U.S. men’s national team, assembled by USA Football. The team, composed of 45 U.S. football players age 20 and older, will compete in the seven- nation Internatio­nal Federation of American Football world championsh­ip July 9-18 in Canton, Ohio. NHL: The Washington Capitals re-signed right wing Garrett Mitchell to a two-year, two-way contract. Mitchell, 23, had four goals, four assists and 121 penalty minutes in 64 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League in 2014-15. NFL: The Washington Redskins signed freeagent nose tackle Jerrell Powe and offensive lineman Willie Smith and waived tackle Tovar Allen. MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER: The league suspended D.C. United forward Chris Rolfe one game and fined him an undisclose­d amount for violent conduct that endangered the safety of an opponent during a May 30 match against the Philadelph­ia Union. —
