Red Sox’s Buchholz dominates Twins

Someone finally figured out how to cool off the Twins.

Clay Buchholz scattered three hits over eight innings as the host Red Sox took a 1-0 win Tuesday night. Buchholz struck out eight against the Twins, who were 20-7 in May. Rusney Castillo had an RBI single in the seventh. Nationals 2-3, Blue Jays 0-7: Jordan Zimmermann pitched eight shutout innings as the Nationals won Game 1. Kevin Pillar hit a three-run homer in Game 2 as the Blue Jays salvaged a split. Rockies 6, Dodgers 3: Michael McKenry homered and drove in three as the Rockies won Game 1 of a doublehead­er. The Dodgers sought the split as Zack Greinke (5-1, 1.48) started the nightcap. Marlins 5, Cubs 2: Marcell Ozuna hit a go-ahead three-run double in the fifth and Giancarlo Stanton cracked his 16th homer for the Marlins. Phillies 5, Reds 4: Darin Ruf hit a walk-off single in the ninth after Maikel Franco’s two-run homer tied it in the eighth as the Phillies snapped a seven-game skid. Athletics 5, Tigers 3: Ben Zobrist’s grand slam highlighte­d a five-run seventh after the A’s managed just one hit off Alfredo Simon in the first six innings. Cardinals 1, Brewers 0: Lance Lynn scattered five hits over 72⁄ innings and Mark Reynolds had an RBI single in the second for the Cardinals.. Rangers 15, White Sox 2: Joey Gallo went 3-for-4 with a tworun homer and four RBIs in MLB debut and Carlos Corporan had a homer and five RBIs. Astros 6, Orioles 4: Evan Gattis hit a three-run homer and Luis Valbuena added a go-ahead solo shot in a five-run third. Collin McHugh improved to 6-2. Indians at Royals: The Indians had a 2.87 ERA during a 10-3 stretch. The Royals’ Jeremy Guthrie allowed a career-high 11 runs in his last start. Braves at Diamondbac­ks: Braves starter Shelby Miller had yielded two or fewer earned runs in each of his 10 starts. Rays at Angels: The Angels averaged 6.6 runs during their fivegame win streak. The Rays’ Chris Archer fanned 12 in his last start. Mets at Padres: The Mets’ Noah Syndergaar­d allowed two earned runs in his last 191⁄ innings. Ian Kennedy started for the Padres. Yankees at Mariners: CC Sabathia started for the Yankees, losers of 12 of 17 on the road. The M’s looked to end a three-game skid. Pirates at Giants: A.J. Burnett sought his sixth straight win for the Pirates. The Giants’ Chris Heston had a 2.16 home ERA.
