Blue Jays increase lead on Yankees

David Price pitched seven shutout innings, Jose Bautista had two hits and an RBI and the Blue Jays used a three-run first to beat the Yankees 4-2 on Monday night and stretch their AL East lead to 31⁄ 2 games. Price retired 14 in a row at one point and finished his two-hit outing by fanning Chase Headley and Greg Bird for two of his seven strikeouts. Mets 4, Braves 0: Jonathon Niese won for the first time in a month, Michael Conforto homered, Daniel Murphy lined a two-run double and Yoenis Cespedes had three hits. The Mets’ magic number to clinch the NL East is seven. Shelby Miller is 0-15 in 23 starts since May 17. Cardinals 2, Reds 1: Rookie Stephen Piscotty doubled in the go-ahead run in a two-run eighth. Trevor Rosenthal earned his 47th save to match the franchise record. The Cardinals are an MLB-best 51-24 at home. Astros 6, Angels 3: Dallas Keuchel extended his club record with his 16th straight win at home. Carlos Correa hit a tworun homer in the third among his three hits and Jose Altuve also had three hits. Evan Gattis also hit a two-run homer. Cubs 9, Brewers 5: The Cubs won their eighth straight in the series behind a 13-hit attack. Jorge Soler hit a three-run pinch homer in the seventh. Anthony Rizzo reached all five times (three hits, two walks). Red Sox 8, Rays 7: Xander Bogaerts hit an eighth-inning grand slam off Brandon Gomes. The Rays scored three in the top of the first, including a solo HR by Brandon Guyer (three hits). White Sox 2-3, Tigers 0-2: Jeff Samardzija pitched a one-hitter in the opener, allowing only a leadoff single to Victor Martinez in the fifth. He struck out six in his third career shutout, throwing just 88 pitches. He had been 1-8 with a 9.24 ERA in his last nine starts. Erik Johnson improved to 3-0 in the nightcap. Pirates at Rockies: The Pirates were one victory from their second 90-win season in three years after going 20 in a row without hitting that mark. D’backs at Dodgers: Dodgers LHP Brett Anderson was trying to win 10 games for the first time since his rookie year (2009 with the A’s, when he was 11-11).
