Lake Clifton survives New Era, 52-51, in 1A South; No. 13 C.M. Wright tops Dundalk

Lake Clifton survived host New Era in Class 1A South Section II boys basketball final Wednesday.

Shawn Matthews made his fifth 3pointer of the game to draw the Jaguars (9-7) within one with three seconds remaining, but the Lakers (15-10) were able to inbound the ball and run out the clock to win, 52-51.

“We created some turnovers in the fourth quarter, but [New Era] still made some shots,” Lake Clifton coach Herman “Tree” Harried said.

New Era led 14-10 before Lake Clifton took a 22-20 lead at the half. The Lakers outscored the Jaguars 18-6 in the fourth quarter to win.

Kai Thompson had 10 points for Lake Clifton.

NO. 13 C. MILTON WRIGHT 73, DUNDALK 67: Corey Bays scored a game-high 25 points to power the host Mustangs (20-3) past the Owls (18-6) in Class 3A North Section II.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN 72, EDMONDSON 62: The Bayhawks (18-6) used five players in double-digit scoring to get past the Red Storm (11-11) in Class 1A South Section I at Digital Harbor.

Ben Franklin was led by Anthony Coffey (19 points), Daquan Grier (16 points), Tyheem Potillo (11 points), Dameone Suggs (10 points) and Larry Walker (10 points).

CENTENNIAL 58, WILDE LAKE 42:

ANNAPOLIS 65, BROADNECK5­4: Walter Tolliver made a pair of early 3-pointers and Chris Jones finished with a game-high 19 points as the Panthers (17-7) turned aside the upset-minded Bruins (11-13) in the Class 4A East Section I final. Annapolis will travel to Meade on Friday night for the regional title game.

Broadneck, which upset top-seeded North Point on Monday, got 16 points from Emmett Davis, but couldn’t pull off a second straight stunner.

PATTERSON MILL 68, HAVRE DE GRACE 44: The visiting Huskies (12-12) led 16-0 after a quarter and were never threatened in Class 1A North Section I.

Tyler Jakubowski’s two 3-pointers got the Huskies rolling. Dale Harris came off the bench early and went 6-for-6 from beyond the 3-point line to lead all scorers with 18 points.

HARFORD TECH 60, ELKTON 40: The visiting Cobras (10-12) won the Class 2A East Section I title for the second straight year.

Harford Tech used a 15-0 first quarter to take control and led 28-15 at the half.
