Mariners: 2B Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the Mariners beat the Astros 12-4 on Wednesday to keep pressure on the other American League wild-card contenders. 3B Kyle Seager added another three-run drive in the eighth as the Mariners stayed within two games of the Orioles for the second AL wild card. The Astros dropped three games back as their magic number for eliminatio­n was cut to two.

Yankees: 1B Mark Teixeira hit a game-winning grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning and the Yankees staved off playoff eliminatio­n at the last possible moment with a 5-3 victory over the Red Sox, who still clinched the AL East title thanks to the Blue Jays’ loss to the Orioles. Teixeira’s hit was one of only three the Yankees managed.

Orioles: Hyun Soo Kim hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth inning off RHP Roberto Osuna and the Orioles beat the Blue Jays 3-2 to move within one game of the AL wild-card leaders. OF Mark Trumbo hit his major-league-leading 46th home run for the Orioles and reliever Zach Britton earned his 47th save in as many chances.

Tigers: 1B Miguel Cabrera hit a tiebreakin­g three-run homer in the fifth inning. moments before the game was halted for good, and the t Tigers came away with a rain-shortened 6-3 victory over the Indians to keep pace with the Orioles in the AL wild-card race. The Tigers trail the Orioles by one game for the second spot.

Mets: OF Jay Bruce hit his 32nd home run, 1B James Loney also homered and the Mets stayed on top in the National League wild-card race with a 5-2 win over the Marlins hours after funeral services for Miami pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died Sunday in a boating accident. The loss eliminated the Marlins from playoff contention.

Reds: OF Adam Duvall’s tworun single was all the Reds needed to beat the Cardinals 2-1 and drop them 21⁄ games behind the Mets in the NL wild-card race.
